Homeopathy for
Gout
What remedies are homeopathic for a
gouty attack?
Where homeopathy is concerned the above
question is inappropriate, for each case of gout would
have to be individualized and treated accordingly. From a
classical point of view there is no such a thing as a remedy
for gout, or migraine, or whatever else you might be suffering
from. There are thousands of remedies and any number of these
might fit your individual case, a homeopath is not concerned
with the name of your disease, they are concerned with your
dis-ease state, and will treat accordingly,
individually and mostly successfully.
However, from another non classical viewpoint there are a
number of remedies in homeopathic materia medica which
have gouty symptoms attached to them, and may treat your gout
successfully. Because your case has not been individualized
here, you may find that the remedies may have a palliative
effect similar to prescription drugs, but not with their side
effects, and may therefore not cure your condition, but only
alleviate it.
No doubt anyone experiencing a gouty
attack wouldn't give a hoot what the remedy was, just as long
as it stopped the pain, pronto! Under these demanding
circumstances Colchium 30c can bring resolution to an attack,
and would then need to be repeated every second day for
sometime. Benzoic Acid 200c could be given for the more chronic
form of gout with tophi, this also would have to be repeated
every second day for sometime. Cimicifuga 30 can give relief
where multiple small joints are affected, and not so much
evidence of inflammation, again repetition every second day
would be necessary.
Natrum Muriaticum 6x has been found to be successful
in bringing relief to an acute attack of gout. When the heart
is weak Aurum muriaticum 3x works wonders, and Aurum muriaticum
naturatum 3x is indicated when the patient has copius sweating.
Jaborandi has also produced good results. These remedies were
used to treat gout by a Dr Compton Burnet in the nineteenth
century.
He also had huge success treating gout with Urtica urens, so
much so that he became known as Dr Urtica. He noted that when
he treated his patients with urtica urens/stinging nettle they
passed large quantities of gravel, so urtica became his number
one treatment for gouty attacks.
He goes on to say that not all cases of gout will react in a
positive manner to Urtica, for it's impossible to expect
uniform results, and this is the argument for using
classical homeopathy, for each case is treated
individually.
Other remedies used by Dr Compton Burnett were Urea, Uric
Acid, Daphne, Mezereum, Physalis alkekengi, Bryonia, Rhus tox,
Pulsatilla, and Bacillinum, and many others in accordance with
the presenting indications of the individual case.
Although Dr Burnett observed that Urtica urens removed
gravel from the system, he noted that this remedy did not
remove the gouty diathesis, that always needed further
treatment with deeper acting and more appropriate homeopathic
remedies. Read more:Herbs for Gout
